Brisbane – A Guide for Backpackers

You should definitely check out the Street Beach, but as a backpacker you should also know about the casino and the library of Brisbane.

    Streets Beach: Lagoon South Bank

From Kangaroo Point a popular place to hang out in Brisbane, it’s just a short walk to the city center or Streets Beach on the South Bank, where there is an artificial, yet excellent, lagoon and right by the Brisbane river.

n addition to BBQs and benches, there are also plenty of public toilets and showers – however with cold water. Streets Beach is a really nice designed lagoon on the Brisbane River with loungers and water park. If you are sleeping in the car at Kangaroo Point, just walk for 10 minutes along the river to reach the lagoon.

The Street Beach is indicated in the map and Street View below.

Casino Brisbane – Watch Sports Anytime

The few casinos in Australia are all very well equipped. The casino in Brisbane is open 24 hours a day. Here you do not necessarily need to gamble and put everything on red, of course there are also restaurants and bars. The Brisbane Casino is located on Elizabeth Street at Victoria Bridge, across the street from Streets Beach and The Wheel of Brisbane.

Who wants to watch sports at any time, for example to follow European sports early in the morning, has the best chances at the casino. It runs e.g. a Bundesliga game? Or the European Championship? In the sports bar in the casino you will definitely find a screen that shows your event. Otherwise just ask the bartender who will be looking for the station – they are super equipped and get all kind of channels.

In large Australian cities casinos are generally the best starting point for sporting events that are broadcast live.

    Brisbane Library

If you are looking for a quiet place to work or need internet access, for example to write a CV or want to update your blog, you should try at the state library of Brisbane.

The library is not far from the South Bank and is generously equipped. The staff there are also very helpful when you need to print something.
